Athanasius Kircher

Athanasius Kircher, the Jesuit Polymath from the Baroque era, is a hero and obsession of mine. I first learned about him at the Museum of Jurassic Technology.

I've collected pretty much every major book about him, and written a paper about his music composition algorithm, which I've studied pretty closely.

Because of my Kircher obsession, I've met and corresponded with some cool people, like Dr. Hans Vollrath, Josh Foer, and our mutual friend Alex Boxer, science historian and latinist.

Kircher's music book documented the automatic music instruments of his time, and my fascination with him eventually fueled my fascination with automatic music instruments in general.
